The Problem
Maternal and neonatal deaths remain high in Eswatini, with a maternal mortality ratio (MMR) of 452 per 100,000 live births—well above the global average of 223 per 100,000—and a neonatal mortality rate (NMR) of 20 per 1,000 live births, compared with a global average of 17 per 1,000 live births.
Due to limited access to health facilities, many mothers and newborns do not receive the recommended eight antenatal care (ANC) and four postnatal care (PNC) contacts.
The Solution
As part of the government’s new community health strategy, Rural Health Motivators use Clinitouch to deliver ANC and PNC support directly in mothers’ homes, helping expand access to care in hard-to-reach communities.
The Clinitouch platform generates real-time risk scores that can be instantly reviewed by primary health centres, enabling healthcare teams to identify at-risk mothers and newborns earlier and provide timely referrals for life-saving care. The solution also strengthens coordination between community health workers and clinicians, improving continuity of care across pregnancy and the postnatal period.
